How to find the ScummVM game folder on Android

Finding stuff on the Android ScummVM app is not the most intuitive process, but it pays out!

Finding the game folder on Android ScummVM is not very straightforward, so I decided to write this quick guide.

I already wrote a guide on how to install and play Curse of Monkey Island on Android, but didn't elaborate on how to find the game folder on the app.

Firstly, ScummVM is an awesome open-source collection of game engines capable of running many old point & click classics.

In addition to the first three Monkey Island games, you can play Blade Runner, Broken Sword, Day of the Tentacle, Elvira, Full Throttle, Gabriel Knight, Grim Fandango, Indiana Jones, King's Quest, Kyrandia, Lands of Lore, Leisure Suit Larry, Longest Journey, Loom, Myst, Police Quest, Quest for Glory, Sam & Max, Simon the Sorcerer, Space Quest, The Dig, Ultima, Waxworks... the list goes on and on!

So, you have transferred the game folder of your game on your phone using USB file transfer or by copying it on the SD card.

Then, do this:

  • Start ScummVM.
  • Select "Add game"
  • Select "go up" until you either see the game folder or it doesn't go any further.
  • Then select either "ScummVM data (Ext)" if the game is on the SD card or "ScummVM data (Int)" if you have it in the internal storage of the phone.
  • Now select "go up" and after a while you should land on the phone's root directory.
  • Your game folder is probably here, or maybe you put it under Downloads, which should be accessible from here.
  • You can try again by "going up" all the way again.

When you eventually find the game folder, select it so it goes green and then press the "Choose" button. A pop-up opens with extra settings for the game, but you should be fine with default settings.

If all this didn't work, you probably did not allow the ScummVM app to access your files. Go to Android settings, find app permissions settings and allow file access for the ScummVM app. This is safe to do and necessary for ScummVM to work.

Have fun with ScummVM!
