How to find out your Linux distribution and version number

Write this command to the terminal:
cat /etc/*-release

It will bring out the distro and the version.

  Kingdom Come: Deliverance has a bug which makes the sound come out muffled or like the characters were talking far away or through a tunnel. This seems to be because the game thinks you are using multichannel surround sound. There seems to be no option to change the audio mode in-game. Instead, you should change your audio settings in Windows by following these directions: Press the windows key Type "Choose your output device" and select the search result. Select "Device properties" under the Output caption. Select "Additional device properties" This dialog will differ depending on your audio hardware. Go to the Advanced tab. There should be a selection for the default audio format. You should select something like this: 2 channel 44100 Hz audio. I had my Focusrite audio interface set up with 8 channels 24bit 44100 Hz, and that caused Kingdom Come to think I have surround sound. After changing the channel amount to 2 the audio started working correctly.

How to get rid of coil whine just by tweaking BIOS

Finally. No more ringing in my ears! I had a really bad case of coil whine with my computer. In the end I fixed it just by tweaking the BIOS! The coil whine was at it's worst when the PC was idling or under a light load.  Coil whine is a high-pitched sound that is produced by coils resonating at a high frequency. It is really hard to sense where exactly it's coming from. This is because humans cannot sense direction for high-pitched sounds. At first I thought it was my graphics adapter. So I bought a new used one. But the ringing was still there after the upgrade. Next up, I suspected my PSU was the culprit. So I changed the power supply to a newer 80 Plus Platinum model. How to fix the Anno 1404 out of memory error

While playing Anno 1404 Venice multiplayer in local LAN , I had some crashes on one of the PCs. The game suddenly shows a message saying "You no longer have enough memory" and then crashes after a while. I found several tips on the internet on how to solve this. But for me, this is what worked: 1) Download this tool called 4GB Patch and run it on these four .exe files: \Anno 1404 Gold Edition\Addon.exe \Anno 1404 Gold Edition\Anno4.exe \Anno 1404 Gold Edition\tools\AddonWeb.exe \Anno 1404 Gold Edition\tools\Anno4Web.exe 2) Reduce graphics quality to medium or low. This allowed us to play long sessions and I never saw the error again. I don't mind the graphics being a bit crappy if works better. Intel HD Graphics problem "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"

I solved a problem with my Lenovo T410 Thinkpad. The machine often crashed when viewing HD video. Black parts appeared on the screen or the whole screen would go black, and the computer would go to a halt. Sometimes Windows 7 gave an error message: "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered". But the system was always in a halt and showing no signs of recovering. This was clearly a problem with the Intel HD Graphics adapter. I updated the graphics driver with Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools, using the Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update. However, the update did not solve the problem for me. After getting frustrated for a while, I found that Intel has a newer version of the driver on their site. You need to use Microsoft Internet Explorer to open this URL: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/graphics The website will aid you in updating your Intel drivers. Upgrading Ubuntu 10.04 to 11.10.

Due to the Kernel of my current Ubuntu Linux being incompatible with the new squashfs, I wanted to update my Ubuntu desktop to the newest version, 11.10. The old version I was using was 10.04 LTS (long-term support). The process had to be done in three parts, and took a quite long time (~3 hours). If you have a slow internet it could take much more. But at least the process was straightforward. First, I upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 with this guide (quoted below). Upgrade from 10.04 LTS to 10.10 - Network Upgrade for Ubuntu Desktops (Recommended) You can easily upgrade over the network with the following procedure.
